Troubleshooting Guide for Educators

Troubleshooting Guide for Educators PROBLEM: The interactive whiteboard doesn't react to touch correctly. Solution: On the interactive surface, click the SMART software icon in the notification area (Windows) or Dock (Mac), then select Orient. The Orientation screen should open. Pick up a pen from the pen tray Beginning at the first target on the screen, touch the center of the target firmly with the tip of the pen and hold the pen steady until the target turns green. When you lift the pen the target moves to the next point. Repeat step 3 on all of the targets. The Orientation screen closes. PROBLEM: The 'markers' for the Smartboard will not 'write.'  Solution: Return the pens to its magnetic holder to calibrate it. Make sure the pens pressure sensitive switch isn’t damaged or dir...

Learning Specialist/Instructional Specialist Proposal Blog Reflection 2

Learning Specialist/Instructional Specialist Proposal Blog Reflection 2   Image source: giphy.com   I have really enjoyed the process of this project. I believe that having a projector in the gym would be beneficial for many reasons. In my physical education classes, I teach many drills and skills, teamwork, communication, respect, etc. However, since my classes do play various games often, students have started to see physical education as another “recess” rather than an actual class. I really try to make sure that the students understand that physical education is another class that they need to be ready to learn and to try their best.  I am still very excited about this addition to our school and can see the potential of how this can be beneficial in our gym. As PE teachers we see every student in the school at some point throughout the week. All students learn differently and as teachers it is our job to create meaningful and engaging lessons to help all of our studen...

Learning Specialist/Instructional Designer Proposal Refelction Part 1

Learning Specialist/Instructional Designer Proposal Reflection Part 1  Image Source: giphy I have really enjoyed the process of this project so far. I believe that having a projector in the gym would be beneficial for many reasons. In my physical education classes, I teach many drills and skills, teamwork, communication, respect, etc. However, since my classes do play various games often, students have started to see physical education as another "recess" rather than an actual class. I really try to make sure that the students understand that physical education is another class that they need to be ready to learn and to try to do their best.  I'm still very excited about this topic. I think that the most positive aspect of this journey for me has been the idea of how much I could do with a projector in the gym in order to make my lessons more fun and engaging for my students. I think that researching this topic has opened my eyes to just how much potential this type of te...

Social Media

Negative Effects of Social Media on Teens Article #1 Teen Girls and Mental Health Article Link: "Teen Girls are Facing a Mental Health Epidemic. We're Doing Nothing About It" by: Jean M. Twenge   Image Source: https://giphy.com/   Being a female and using social media, really had this article stick out to me. As I have talked about mental health before and have done all the things with social media like compare myself and my life to others. I was wondering how it can affect teens growing up with social media now. This article by Jean M. Twenge talked about many reasons why there is a huge growth in mental health issues among teens. In the article, it talks about how 90% of teen girls use social media every day and they don't hang out with friends in person anymore. With social media teens run the risk of seeing sexual exploitation, body image issues, cyberbullying and more. All of this is linked to depression in teenage girls and can worsen their mental health. In or...

Educational Technology Reflection

Reflection Post Hi Everyone! This is officially my last blog post of this class! When I first started this course I was extremely overwhelmed and anxious. I felt like there was so much to do and I didn't know where to start. By week eight, I felt so comfortable and couldn't believe the time moved this fast! I am very happy that I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and was able to complete everything in this class. From creating a blog, to downloading Twitter and making a professional account, to making my own professional website! There was so many assignments in this class that I will be able to use in my future teaching, and I feel so comfortable with them all. Here's a Giphy of how I felt in week eight.  (I felt like I was on a roll with all my blogging.) Image Source: https://giphy.com Even though I felt like I knew a lot about the digital world and all the techy things, this class proved to me that I barely knew anything. In the end though that is okay, it just shows...

Digital Tattoo

What is Digital Tattoo? Digital Tattoo vs Digital Footprint The saying a "digital footprint" has often been used when talking about what you posted on the internet. The problem is now that social media and technology have really popped off, the impact you leave on the internet is not a "footprint" anymore it is a "tattoo". There is a permanence now which is similar to a tattoo. This tattoo reference is now that if you post something on the internet no matter how hard you try to erase it, it will always be out there. When posting information going forward, you need to think about if you would like this post to be visible for everyone to see for the rest of time. My Digital Tattoo Once in a while I have Googled my name to see what shows up, but if I am being honest I hate doing it. Even though I have stopped posting as much, it gives me anxiety to see what shows up and the unknown of something popping up that I posted when I was in high school or younger. If...

Accessibility in Technology

Technology Accessibility in the Classroom As teachers we need to make sure everything we do in the classroom is equal for all of our students. Having digital access for all students is crucial for the students learning. After researching all about accessibility and what types of technology I can use in my classroom, I decided to tweet for five days about tips and tricks that teachers can use in their classroom and for their professional growth.   You can check out my Twitter and other Tweets here !  My first tweet was talking about google slides. I use google slides quite a bit in my teaching and classroom. When I send out my slides and lesson plans for students, I normally just shared it within the program. After researching, I found out that presenting in a link in "HTML View" would make the presentation easier and more accessible for all students.          Image Source: Author   On Day two, I found this website that helps evaluators...
