Personal Learning Network Assignment

Personal Learning Network Assignment - Twitter Account     Image Source: Author     Click here to follow me on Twitter! @MsPaterPE1   I never had a social media account professionally, and I was always quite nervous to start one. A PLN or Professional Learning Network, is a community of people who connect and share resources, advice and support. I thought this was tough to start and find but I knew in the long run it will be beneficial to me.   Joining X/Twitter Joining Twitter and making an account was simple. I started playing around with it and finding other teachers and PE professionals to follow. When I would follow someone it gave me ideas or other accounts to follow that they thought I would be interested in. This was helpful because I feel like it made it more personal to my account. After that I played around with liking and retweeting ideas I could use in my classroom.    I had no idea there was such a thing of "live" chatting in...

Generation Z Research

Screen Time & Access to Technology I started my research by looking into social media usage in teens. I researched about race, income levels, gender and age. I found this article "The Common Sense Census" 2021, that helped me gather the information. Looking at the images below from the article, I was a little surprised by what I found out. This first image shows how the average screen time is increasing each year. The teens almost double the tweens average. I thought this chart was important to first notice because if we are looking at social media and technology use I wanted to look at the times first. Keeping in mind the older the students are they could be using technology and apps for school or work and maybe that is why they are almost doubled.   Image Source:  "The Common Sense Census" I also thought this chart was interesting because looking farther into the screen times, this chart broke up the teens by gender, race and family income. Ac...

Active Learning in Today's Society

What is Active Learning? Active learning is any activity that has the students engage course material through activities like discussions, problem solving and more. This is more of a non - traditional model of instruction where the students will engage in small or large group centered activities, but also some reflecting. Example of Active Learning The post I chose to read was   QR Code Mysterie s by Professor Zumpano. In this activity, the students took iPads and scanned QR codes around the room. When they scanned the QR codes, the students found the missing words to a famous speech. After that the students found out how to create their own QR codes. Their final activity was to make their own QR codes with mystery missing parts of their own speech. The students could then interact with each other and look at their peers work. Digital Footprint

Digital Visitors vs. Digital Residents I spend a lot of time using technology, could be either on my computer, iPhone or Kindle but I never really thought about it until this blog. We all use apps for social media and connecting with family and friends we don't get to see often. Social media apps are growing as the days go on, I am always trying to keep up with the trends, but as I got older I started to shift my usages of apps for a more professional growth.  Looking into my Own Personal Experience The Professional vs Personal and Visitor vs Resident process helps myself to reflect on my own engagement with digital apps. I first started by opening up my phone and just looking at all the apps I have. At first, I was overwhelmed by this and thinking I have way to many apps but after looking at the map I made I don't feel as overwhelmed as I did. I first started by making the arrows for resident, visitor, professional and personal. After that I dove right in and started placing...

Triple E Framework

Triple E Framework For this blog post, I am going to be examining my teaching under the Triple E Framework. This framework was developed by Professor Liz Kolb at the University of Michigan School of Education. Triple E was designed to help educators to build their knowledge on technology and teaching practice in the classroom.        Image from: https://www.tripleeframework.com    Why Triple E?   The Triple E Framework was designed to help teachers create lessons that allow the students to use technology in order to increase value in their learning goals. Learning goals such as active, social and creative. The technology also helps administrators evaluation the learning inside the classroom.  What is the Triple E? To explain it in practical terms, the Triple E framework uses technology to measure if the students are meeting their learning goals in the classroom. Triple E differs from other technology framework since it focuses on the learn...
