Personal Learning Network Assignment - Twitter Account

I never had a social media account professionally, and I was always quite nervous to start one. A PLN or Professional Learning Network, is a community of people who connect and share resources, advice and support. I thought this was tough to start and find but I knew in the long run it will be beneficial to me.
Joining X/Twitter
Joining Twitter and making an account was simple. I started playing around with it and finding other teachers and PE professionals to follow. When I would follow someone it gave me ideas or other accounts to follow that they thought I would be interested in. This was helpful because I feel like it made it more personal to my account. After that I played around with liking and retweeting ideas I could use in my classroom.
I had no idea there was such a thing of "live" chatting in X/Twitter. In a live chat, there is a moderator that posts questions for people to answer. Anyone can join the chat and at that time people can share resources and respond to anyone chatting. At the beginning I was stressed and anxious about joining a chat since I couldn't seem to find one and I never had one of these accounts before but after researching and putting in the work I was able to find and complete a chat!
Finding a Chat
First when finding a chat I used the hashtag that we got in class. #LearnLAP. At first I was disappointed because I kept seeing past chats that just ended and I didn't know how to find the start date and time for them. Once I found a chat that would be beneficial to myself (#UTedChat) I took note of the date and time and waited for it to start. I started by introducing myself in the chat, and then when the moderator posted a question I jumped in and answered it along with adding the corresponding labels. Once other people started replying to the questions, I was also able to respond to those comments. These next couple images below are pictures of myself participating in a Professional Learning Network discussion on Twitter!

Participating in this chat, I was able to introduce myself and say hi to other accounts that would be joining the chat. After that I answered all the questions with a mix of responding to the ones that I really enjoyed reading. You can see in the fourth picture of the chat, I was able to quote "retweet" a response that I enjoyed. I liked being able to talk with other educators and feel connected to them.
Take Away
This "live" chat lasted a little bit over an hour but it went pretty quick. I was able to find more accounts on twitter that I can follow and see the resources they use for class. I can see myself using this as a tool to increase my knowledge for my classes. Having a Professional Learning Network and even just joining this one X/Twitter chat I feel as though everyone who participated in this is now connected. It's nice to have a community to bond and bounce ideas off of.
