Troubleshooting Guide for Educators

PROBLEM: The interactive whiteboard doesn't react to touch correctly.
Solution:

  1. On the interactive surface, click the SMART software icon in the notification area (Windows) or Dock (Mac), then select Orient. The Orientation screen should open.

  2. Pick up a pen from the pen tray

  3. Beginning at the first target on the screen, touch the center of the target

    firmly with the tip of the pen and hold the pen steady until the target turns

    green. When you lift the pen the target moves to the next point.

  4. Repeat step 3 on all of the targets.

  5. The Orientation screen closes.

PROBLEM: The 'markers' for the Smartboard will not 'write.' 

Solution:

  1. Return the pens to its magnetic holder to calibrate it.

  2. Make sure the pens pressure sensitive switch isn’t damaged or dirty.

  3. If one pen isn’t working, make sure the pen is paired with the correct display

    and is fully charged.

  4. If all pens aren’t working, return the pens to their magnetic holders.

  5. Restart the display.

PROBLEM: When I turn on the Chromebook, it says that I'm not connected to the internet.

Solution:

  1. Check your physical connection.

  2. Restart your Chromebook and router.

  3. Forget and reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.

  4. Update your Chromebook software. Open the Settings menu. Click on "About

    Chrome OS." Click on "Check for updates." If updates are available, click "Download and install."

PROBLEM: A teacher calls you and says that the projector will not project from his laptop computer.

Solution:

  1. Verify Physical Connections: Laptop: Ensure the laptop is turned on and the

    video output port is properly connected to the projector cable. Projector: Confirm the projector is powered on and the correct input source is selected (e.g., HDMI, VGA).Cable: Check for any loose connections or damage to the video cable. Try a different cable if available.

  2. Adjust Computer Settings: Display Settings: Extend your desktop to the projector screen. Resolution: Ensure the resolution on your laptop matches the projector's native resolution.

  3. Driver Update: Check for and update your laptop's video drivers.

  4. Restart all Devices Projector Lamp: If the projector shows a lamp warning

    light, it may be nearing the end of its lifespan or need replacement.

PROBLEM: When I project, the sound comes out of my computer.

Solution:

  1. Verify Audio Output Settings: Computer: Open the sound settings on your

    computer. Output Device: Ensure the "Default Device" is set to the projector's audio output (e.g., HDMI Audio, Digital Output). Application-Specific: Check if individual applications have separate audio output settings.

  2. Physical Connections: Audio Cable: Confirm the audio cable is properly connected to both the computer and the projector's audio input ports. Cable Type: Check if the audio cable is the correct type for your projector's audio input (e.g., HDMI, 3.5mm jack). Mute Button: Ensure the projector's audio mute button is not engaged.

  3. Update Drivers: Audio Drivers: Update your computer's audio drivers to ensure compatibility with the projector.Projector Firmware: Check for and install any firmware updates for your projector.

  4. System Restart: Computer: Restart your computer completely. Projector: Turn off the projector and unplug it for 30 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.
