Learning Specialist/Instructional Specialist Proposal Blog Reflection 2

I have really enjoyed the process of this project. I believe that having a projector in the gym would be beneficial for many reasons. In my physical education classes, I teach many drills and skills, teamwork, communication, respect, etc. However, since my classes do play various games often, students have started to see physical education as another “recess” rather than an actual class. I really try to make sure that the students understand that physical education is another class that they need to be ready to learn and to try their best.
I am still very excited about this addition to our school and can see the potential of how this can be beneficial in our gym. As PE teachers we see every student in the school at some point throughout the week. All students learn differently and as teachers it is our job to create meaningful and engaging lessons to help all of our students learn and succeed. I think that the most positive aspect of this journey for me has been the idea of how much I could do with a projector in the gym in order to help my students succeed in physical education class. There are so many skills and activities that are introduced to students throughout the school year. Some students may participate in many different sports and activities outside of school, but for some this may be the only time they have ever learned how to participate in the activities we teach. Providing the students with a technology tool in the gym will provide them with more of a visual way to learn how to perform the skill or the activity. I think that researching this topic has opened my eyes to just how much potential this type of technology could have for my school and for my students. My hope is to use technology to reach more of my visual learners. All students learn differently and I need to make sure that I am providing all students with the necessary resources to be successful in my class. The projector would allow me to put up videos of demonstrations, key words, cues, descriptions of activities, and for students to be able to share their work/projects with the class. This technology tool could also be used for other activities in the school such as the board of education meetings, walkathon, holiday sing, field day, and all assemblies held in the gym.
I think that the biggest challenge for me was to get all of the research and information needed for the presentation. It’s going to be difficult to get the support I need from all that are involved with the decision. I think that researching the district goals, the school goals, and the national PE goals will help because our school has moved to a 21st century type of learning. Technology is used in the classroom now for almost everything. I think that having the knowledge and the ideas of what a projector in the gym could be used for will really help support this change.
I think that the roles of the technology specialist are very challenging. There is so much technology out there and having to choose what they believe will be best for all students and staff can be a challenge. They need to make sure that they have support, it falls in the budget for the district, and that it will have a positive impact on all students’ learning experiences.
