First Blog Ever:
Hi Readers! My name is Stacy and I just started my fifth year of teaching Physical Education. I graduated college in 2019, so my first two years of teaching were very tricky and unusual. I am happy that it seems like the school years are getting back to how they use to be. In my five years of teaching, I taught high school, middle school and elementary. I do not have a favorite grade level but I did enjoy all levels and I love how I was able to experience different grade levels early on in my career! I really enjoy teaching physical education and now that I am more confident in that, I am looking to increase my knowledge in other areas to help my students be successful inside and outside of school.
I love to be very involved in the school district and community! I am the Head Coach for the High School's Cheerleading team, I run intramurals for the middle school, after school homework club and supervision of athletic events. Outside of teaching, I am working on completing my masters! I started off in the ESL Program at Dominican in order to be a better teacher for all of my students, but I loved it so much that I decided to keep going in order to complete my masters. I also enjoy being outside, reading, baking and spending time with my family and friends. I love traveling and just this past year went out of the country for the first time! I have been to Paris, London and Greece now, and I am looking for recommendations for my next big trip!
My relationship with technology is not strong. I would like to enhance the use in my physical education classes and that is why I decided to take Technology courses. There are so many ideas and fun concepts that I can bring into my space for my students that I would love to learn more about. I don't really use technology at all in my classroom so it would be something I would like to change. I have exit slips on their chromebooks and I use a projector for some units like gymnastics and dance but that is my extent of technology in my classroom. I would also like to use technology in order to help me connect with families in the community. Incorporating technology into physical education can be somewhat challenging. Especially since we put such an emphasize on moving and not losing anytime, we want the students to maximize the time in class to be active. That can make it tricky to find ways in order to use technology but also get up and get moving.
I am very nervous about this class because it is something I have never done before and I feel like I have no idea what I am doing but I am trying my best. Blogging can be very intimidating but I am excited to learn and get better at this!

Great to meet you, Stacy. I understand your dilemma about incorporating technology into physical education courses. Like all things, technology should be done in moderation. That being said, I can definitely see how it can be used to provide resources, connect with parents, and help with nutrition and well being. I'm excited to learn with you this fall and see what connections you make.
ReplyDeleteHi Stacy! Nice to meet you and I’m a first-time blogger as well! It was very overwhelming to create this first blog but like you I hope to get better over time. I love that you’re a physical education teacher. When I was growing up, I had physical education every day, it was called “gym.” In my building if the students receive it twice a week, they’re lucky. Traveling is so awesome and fun; my daughter spent this summer in Spain! Traveling is life changing so do it as much as possible. I enjoyed reading your blog post!
