Triple E Framework

Triple E Framework

For this blog post, I am going to be examining my teaching under the Triple E Framework. This framework was developed by Professor Liz Kolb at the University of Michigan School of Education. Triple E was designed to help educators to build their knowledge on technology and teaching practice in the classroom.

Why Triple E?

The Triple E Framework was designed to help teachers create lessons that allow the students to use technology in order to increase value in their learning goals. Learning goals such as active, social and creative. The technology also helps administrators evaluation the learning inside the classroom.

What is the Triple E?
To explain it in practical terms, the Triple E framework uses technology to measure if the students are meeting their learning goals in the classroom. Triple E differs from other technology framework since it focuses on the learning goals and not technology tools. They have developed this measurement tool for K-12 teachers and administrators to use when planning lessons to show them the effectiveness of the learning apps. This framework is based on three components: Engagement, Enhancement and Extension.

Here is a clip on how the Triple E Framework and its components are explained:

In my own classroom...

Triple E Level 1:  Engagement

During the Engagement component, I will often times give the student a fitness worksheet to complete while in the fitness center. Students will be in a pair and use the Google Doc on their Chromebook to fill it in while performing the exercises. This helps the students to focus on the activity by having it with them and actively writing it in. Also, the Google Doc motivates the students to complete the assignment in class and on time. By having the students work in pairs, it helps them to engage with their peers in order to create a workout and do the workout while class is going on.

Triple E Level 2:  Enhanced Learning

Having the student create their own workout in pairs using their Chromebook and Google Doc, helps the student understand their bodies and muscle groups. By having the students brainstorm ideas of exercises and making sure they are hitting all the correct muscle groups helps them to remember what exercises work certain muscles. This is beneficial to the students since they have time to research about different exercises and muscles that they may forget about.

Triple E Level 3:  Extended Learning

When I make lessons with the students Chromebooks and Google Docs, it creates opportunities for the students to learn outside of their typical school day. Many students are active after school, whether it is from other sports or going to the community center and working out. By having the opportunity to learn about the muscle groups and workouts in class, this helps the students use it in their every day life and for their future. When they go to the gym, fitness center and sports they are able to think back to what they learned and how they learned it to use it everyday.

Looking back at the measurement tool, I completed it with thinking about my Chromebook and Google Doc technology in my classroom. This is how the results ended up....

Overall, I believe this framework is beneficial for teachers to use in their classrooms. This is something that I will work with and try to keep implementing into my curriculum.
